Supporting sustainable spending in Formula One

The CCAP is made up of eight independent judges who hear cases on breaches of the Cost Cap rules, which state that teams cannot spend more than $145 million each year.

Tiran was appointed to the CCAP due to his expertise in international sports arbitration and his dual qualification as a Chartered Accountant. He was nominated by Mercedes AMG Petronas Team, as one of three judges appointed by a group of five Formula One teams.

Tiran is also on the Arbitral Board and disciplinary panel for the world governing body of cycling (UCI), the disciplinary panels of England Boxing and British Gymnastics, and frequently acts in matters before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Mark Hovell, who leads Mills & Reeve’s sports sector, believes this latest appointment reflects Tiran’s ever-growing reputation in the field of international sports arbitration: “This panel was set up to make a real difference to the long-term future of Formula One, and I have no doubt that Tiran’s expertise will help ensure a level playing field between teams.”

Judges have been selected from France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Poland and the UK and include a Supreme Court Judge from Queensland (Australia) and the General Secretary of Paris Saint-Germain FC.
